Overseas Adventure Travel is solo traveler friendly. They offer free or low single supplements. OAT understands that solo travelers desire to follow their own schedule, desires and needs. They help handle all the details to make sure your trip is affordable, easy and enjoyable.
A major focus of OAT is cultural immersion. Travelers can expect to visit local schools, churches, and homes (where you might be treated to a home-cooked meal). Experienced guides — all fluent in English — lead groups off the beaten path when possible.
OAT strives to give back to the world they send travelers around. A portion of all proceeds goes to the Grand Circle Foundation, which supports cultural and educational programs in the countries visited.
Who Will Enjoy Traveling With Overseas Adventure Travel?
- Ages 50+
OAT specializes in small group tours around the world serving Americans aged 50 and older. They appeal to the old fashioned – the fact that they still offer a physical catalogue is testament – and their travel style reflects an appreciation of the classics coupled with an adventurous spirit to explore each destination deeper and from a local perspective.
Overall, prices fall into the moderate range, and are especially a bargain for solo travelers, who can save substantially by not having to pay for single supplements. Accommodations are designed to be both comfortable as well as unique and in keeping with the local spirit of the destination. If your hostelling days are over but you feel too adventurous for a standard hotel, OAT will be a great company to travel with.
OAT travelers are those with a passion for culture. They don’t just want to see a destination, they want to experience it. For these travelers, spending a day in a Maasai village in Kenya, eating dinner with a local family in Chile’s oasis town and interacting with local musicians at the bustling Libertad Plaza in San Salvador, Belize is a welcomed adventure.
Top Destinations
OAT operates tours all over the world, specializing in remote, off the beaten path destinations. African safaris are an especially popular offering, though you can also travel to Japan, India, Peru, Iceland, Vietnam, Albania, or Morocco, to name just a few of its far-flung destinations. OAT also runs small-ship cruises through the Galapagos, on the Amazon, and along the Turkish coast.
OAT Travel Style
With Overseas Adventure Travel you’ll find a combination of transportation and accommodation styles, but all with an element of comfort. Groups are small, with a max of 16 (24 on small ship cruises).
Accommodations vary, but generally favor being local and non-traditional over a basic centrally located hotel. Their exact words are “emphasis on authenticity, rather than amenities”.
Their style is all about unique and meaningful cultural interaction. While you’ll learn the history and see the famous sights, their true focus is about people and connections. This means you’ll enjoy meals with local families, like you’re just a friend over for dinner; visit schools and see the amazing work being done in small communities. The visceral understanding and perspective that comes from learning to cook traditional meals and make traditional crafts is what you’ll find on an OAT tour.
Why Choose a Tour with OAT?
OAT offers a unique up close and personal experience, guaranteeing that its groups will never exceed more than 10-16 travelers. A spirit of spontaneity is part of what makes traveling with OAT special, as they strive to take advantage of every interesting opportunity during a trip.
Traveling with Overseas Adventure Travel allows for an in depth cultural travel experience in comfort. Many opportunities exist for travelers to find deals, and it’s a great way to meet new friends in a similar age range.
If you traveled extensively in your youth and are not ready to slow down, but perhaps are looking for a few more logistical ducks to be taken care of for you, OAT could be the perfect fit. They offer a variety of options for more independent minded travelers, as well as ample free time to explore and plan your own adventure during cruise port stops and on their group tours.
Alternatively, if this is your first travel experience, OAT will be a great starting point. You’ll gain cultural insights, meet locals, as well as hit on all the best tourist sites that provide cultural and historical context to your destination.

My Sweet Adventures Reviews
I had one of the best weekends of my life with mysweetadventures. Aaron loves what he does and therefore he went the extra mile to provide something extra unique and tailered to my needs. This meant we didn’t get the standard package but something that was local and really fun. Definitely recommend him, especially if you don’t have much time to do lots of research and are looking for something original!

One of the best weekends of my life!
Exactly what I was looking for. Someone who could listen to my ramblings about what I wanted out of a weekend getaway and then prepare a customised itinerary full of hidden gems that only the locals know. And then he handled all of the admin too. I would highly recommend to anyone looking to seek out something off the beaten track.

Felt like I was a local!
Aaron from the eponymous My Sweet Adventures organised an awesome 4 day adventure trip in Slovenia for myself and a couple of mates. Combining all the tourist tick boxes like Lake Bled and Ljubljana with some awesome mountain biking and canyoning it was a perfect mini trip. Accomodation, bike hire, and even food recommendations were all on point and catered to our budget and preferences. I could keep going but I’d just be stacking superlatives on superlatives. Give My Sweet Adventures a go and you won’t be disappointed. Also Aaron was a pretty decent guy to get on the Lashkos with!

Great trip. Great service
Arron is the perfect guy to organise your trip. He’s well travelled, full of ideas and seems to genuinely get a kick out of helping you plan your holiday. Aaron organised a cracking trip to Croatia for me, my wife and another couple. He knew all the best places to go and took all the pain out of planning process. Definitely recommended.

Great weekend away in Lithuania!
My Sweet Adventures organised a group weekend away in Vilnius, Lithuania. Although we only had a weekend, Aaron organised it so we were able to see and do everything, from the Christmas markets, nice dinners, local breakfast and a cultural walking tour. He was knowledgeable, available to answer any questions, and catered for our budget and interests. It’s so much easier going through Aaron, rather that trawling through multiple websites trying to figure out what to do. Highly recommend the service!

An ideas man for a brilliant weekend!
A good friend of mine introduced me to Aaron as I was looking for some inspiration for a weekend away. In short, he booked us an absolutely cracking weekend! He hooked us up in Germany to watch Borussia Dortmund win at their home ground. Epic! It’s clear why it’s considered the best football atmosphere and stadium in the world. Will definitely hit him up again soon to sort out another awesome weekend!

Excellently organised 4 day trip
MySweetAdventures organised a 4 day trip for myself and 5 friends to Gdansk and Krakow in Poland. They took away alot of the hassle and time involved with organising a holiday. The activities organised for us were off the beaten track which was a welcome change from the usual European city break offerings that you would find on Tripadvisor etc. Aaron was always available to answer any queries we had and ensure the trip went smoothly. Highly recommended.

Colombia: trip of a life time
Aaron is an expert in South America travel, and fully arranged and coordinated a month long adventure in Colombia. He was flexible with any requests, or feedback and had great local insights and recommendations. He carefully managed our budget guidelines which was important given the length of the trip. The trip of a lifetime.

Choquequirao Trek – Peru
For those of you considering the tourist trap of a Machu Picchu hike, I would really encourage you to consider Choquequirao as a superior alternative. Ok, Machu Picchu is impressive, but everybody knows that. Heck, there is a train that drops you off at the bottom right out front of the gift shop. In my humble opinion, Choquequirao is equal in splendor, but has the distinct advantage of being far less traveled making for a better overall, and more personalized experience. Aaron Sweet arranged for such an adventure on my first trip to Peru. He was enthusiastic throughout, plus despite this being his first trip to the area, was very comfortable with navigating our trip having clearly put a lot of himself into the planning. He was also not shy of putting his hand in his pocket for his round at the bar which of course was appreciated. The trek itself was manageable for someone who played sports, but in no shape or form would be consider a hiker. I bought the hiking boots that sit in my closet for this hike alone. Along the way there are various stops to purchase BEER, albeit beer that spent that past few days on the back of a mule reaching such heights similar to my luggage. Reaching the ruins at the top was something out of a Jules Verne novel. Absolutely spectacular. I am very fortunate that Aaron suggested and planned said trip or I would have gone on my merry little way up the side of Machu Picchu and would have been none the wiser to this gem of the Andes. This is one of my best travel memories made all the better for only having to show up.
