The Pacific Ocean is renowned for having some of the most spectacular sunsets in the world. One of the finest places to witness these sunsets is the tropical paradise of Bora Bora in French Polynesia. The views from Matira Beach when the sun is setting are simply out of this world. The beautiful city of Paris is both the capital of France and the gastronomical capital of the world. Home to no less than 10 3-Star Michelin restaurants, it is the place to visit if you want to sample the finest cuisine that money can buy. While it’s understandably not cheap and getting a reservation can be challenging, tasting the exquisite food on offer is a unique experience. It’s one that everyone should try at least once.

The temples of Bagan are one of the most underrated and least visited of Asia’s ancient sites. Home to a staggering 2,229 temples, the Bagan area is a truly inspirational area to visit. Located in central Myanmar, the best way to navigate the sprawling site is by bicycle. Cycling through the luscious green fields from temple to temple is a dream experience. The pinnacle of any visit is the magical sunset over the temples and Irrawaddy River at the end of the day, so be sure to find a suitable vantage point.

52. Travel the Karokoram Highway

The Karakorum Highway in Pakistan is one of the most famous travel routes in the world. Stretching out over 800 miles, it extends from close to Islamabad in Pakistan, all the way to the Chinese border. Famous for its stunning scenery and mountain passes, it’s also one of the highest paved roads in the world, peaking at over 4,700 meters at Khunjerab Pass. A road trip or even a bus journey down this incredible road are true bucket list material.

53. See Komodo Dragons on Rinca Island

The twin islands of Rinca and Komodo are the only place in the world where you can see wild Komodo Dragons. These enormous reptiles are protected by an island wide national park, which allows them to roam and live freely. A visit to these islands is an intriguing experience as you hike through the barren centre of the island in search of these sometimes elusive creatures. If you’ve ever wanted to see a dinosaur in the flesh, this is the closest you’re ever going to come.

Anyone who is a fan of great open spaces will simply adore Mongolia. This wonderful land locked nation is one of the least densely populated places on the planet. It’s population largely lead a traditional life, living off of the land. Many other traditions in Mongolia are still prevalent, including horse riding and living yurts. Over 50% of the population still live in yurts and a stay in one of these wonderful tents is a truly memorable experience. A stay in a yurt in the spectacular Gobi desert is simply the cherry on the cake.

55. Take in Kho Phangan’s Full Moon Party

The island of Koh Phangan in Thailand has created indelible memories for several generations of backpackers. Ever since 1988, the Haad Rin beach on the south-eastern tip of the island has hosted monthly full moon parties. Over the years these parties have become increasingly large and spectacular. Attracting up to 30,000 people, the parties have become a right of passage for backpackers in south east Asia. Visiting one is an incredible bucket list experience, but probably one best reserved for the young.

56. Hike through the jungle to Colombia’s Ciudad Perdida

Colombia’s Ciudad Perdida literally translates into lost city, which is a pretty good description of this historic site. Believed to date back to around 800 AD, it was only rediscovered in 1972. Set deep inside the Colombian jungle on sacred indigenous land, the only way to visit this spectacular site is by foot. A hike into the and out of Ciudad Perdida requires a 30 mile round trip through humid, mosquito infested jungle. Not for the faint hearted, this bucket list trip certainly rewards the intrepid traveller.

57. Experience Carnival in Rio de Janeiro

The city of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil is an electric place. Home to Christ the Redeemer, one of the 7 wonders of the world and Rio de Janeiro Harbor, one of the 7 natural wonders of the world, this place doesn’t need any more curb appeal. However each year during late February or March the city gets it. During this time the city comes alive to the beat of the annual Carnival. Widely regarded as the biggest and best carnival in the world, it’s a hugely memorable experience. Whether you like Samba or not, this is something you simply must see.

58. Climb Mount Kilimanjaro – Africa’s highest peak

Standing at a height of 5,895 meters, Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania is comfortably Africa’s highest peak. Rising up above the surrounding savannah, this huge mountain is the highest free standing mountain in the world and possibly the most ascetically pleasing. Hiking up this mountain is a big bucket list item for many and rightly so. Taking anywhere between 5 to 9 days, it’s an intense but memorable experience. The views from the top are spectacular as is the sunrise ascent to the peak.

59. Swim with dolphins in the Florida Keys

Ask anyone their top 10 bucket list items and swimming with dolphins is nearly always included. One of the finest places to undertake this fabulous experience is in the Florida Keys and the Theatre of the Sea on Windley Key is the place to fulfil this dream. Combining wonderful surrounding with a focus on animal welfare, the long established centre is the place to complete this bucket list activity. It’s an incredible experience, especially for children which dolphins seem to be naturally drawn to.

The Whitsunday Islands off of Queensland’s east coast are some of the dreamiest islands you’re ever likely to see. Nearly totally uninhabited, these 74 islands boast some of the finest beaches anywhere in the world. Sailing through these wonderful islands aboard one of the many liveaboard yachts, which traverse the area is an undeniably unforgettable experience. Island hopping, snorkelling, sunset watching and partying all lay ahead on this bucket list activity.

61. Take a jeep safari on Fraser Island

Fraser Island is a real microcosm of Australia – amazing natural beauty and attractions, surrounded by deadly animals. While this might not sound very bucket list to you, the highs most definitely outweigh the lows! This unique island features huge beaches, rainforests, over 100 lakes, shipwrecks and much more. Getting around requires a jeep and it’s quite an experience navigating the island yourself. This is one of those destinations that is quite unlike anywhere else in the world.

62. See glow worms in Waitomo Caves

The Waitomo Caves are located on New Zealand‘s North Island. Home to an endemic species of glow worm, you can travel along the Waitomo streamway system to see this awesome spectacle. Thousands of glow worms light up the grotto, giving it an ethereal feeling. As well as the glow worms you’ll be able to see stunning stalactite and stalagmite formations as well as the extensive network of caves as you sail through. This is a very calm and tranquil bucket list experience.

63. Walk Dubrovnik’s ancient city walls

The city of Dubrovnik is easily one of the most spectacular cities in the world. The walled city is hemmed in by the Mediterranean on one side and the Dinaric Alps on the other. This formerly sleepy city is now the playground of the rich and famous after finding fame in the Game of Thrones TV show. The white washed city with its iconic red roofs is best viewed from the top of the aforementioned city walls. Of course once you’ve walked the city walls you’ll need to sample the cities fine restaurants and bars.

64. Enjoy a Thai massage on Railay Beach

Another contender for the finest beach in the world is Railay Beach, close to the town of Krabi in Thailand. It’s powder white sands are complimented by the crystal clear turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea. What makes visiting this beach such a unique experience above other world class beaches is the spectacular Thai massages on offer on the beach. The famous Route 66 is an iconic U.S. road trip. Stretching some 2,448 miles from Chicago in Illinois to Santa Monica in California, it gives you a wonderful insight into small town America. Passing through numerous towns and cities, the route is dotted with countless oddities and throwbacks to the age of the automobile. Whether you travel a section or the entire route, you can’t help but fall in love with this road and the memories it holds of yesteryear. You can include Route 66 as part of a road trip from Vegas to Phoenix.

The Kerala backwaters are a spectacular set of canals, lagoons and rivers, which are situated around the city of Kochi in Kerala. Another of the 7 wonders of the world, the Great Wall of China is a sprawling and mesmerising destination. Stretching from the eastern coast to the west of the country, the wall is one of the few man made structures visible from space. A visit to the Great Wall is an incredible and atmospheric experience, especially when hiking along a section of the wall. Seeing the numerous hills and rugged terrain that it covers makes the structure all the more impressive.

A close second behind the awe inspiring Bagan in Myanmar’s list of attractions is Lake Inle. This shallow lake is both a beautiful and cultural centre of Myanmar. The home of the Intha people, one of the chief attractions in the area is to watch these people catch fish with their unique leg-rowing technique. It’s not just us that’s been blown away by this destination, UNESCO have seen fit to designate the area as a world heritage site.

69. Scale Jodhpur’s fortress for views over the Blue City

India and Rajasthan in particular are awash with spectacular hillforts. While 6 of these are UNESCO world heritage sites, we’ve opted for something a little bit different. Our choice is the Mehrangarh Fort in Johpur and it makes our bucket list. Situated on a hilltop above the ‘Blue City’, this fort which dates back to the 15th century, is spectacular in its own right. Combine that with its splendid setting in Johpur, one India’s most underrated cities and you’re on to an absolute winner.

70. Marvel at the history of Perseplois

Iran features sparingly on many people’s list of must visit destinations, but perhaps if more people knew about Persepolis that would change. The ancient city of Persepolis is a true treasure to behold. Dating back to the 6th century BC and the capital of the Achaemenid Empire, it remains in incredible condition for its age. Columns, statues, arches and carvings remain in immaculate condition despite the age of the site. If you love archaeological sites, then this is one that you must visit.

71. Hunt for vampires in Transylvania

The region of Transylvania in Romania is an historic and fascinating one. It’s famous for it’s fictional vampires on account of Bram Stoker’s novel, Dracula. The main draw in Transylvania is of course Bran Castle near Brasov, which is characterised as the home of Dracula. In fact it was actually the home of Vlad the Impaler, someone who shares more than a few common characteristics with Dracula. If you love vampires or horror movies, then a visit to Transylvania and Bran Castle should be on your bucket list.

72. Enter the wild in the Gates of the Arctic National Park

One of America’s frontier national parks, the Gates of the Arctic makes our bucket list for its pure rugged and untouched nature. While there’s more beautiful and more diverse national parks around, the Gates of the Arctic has it’s own unique allure. The park has no designated paths or trails and truly is off the beaten track. In a world of over population and connectivity, this park is a wonderful throwback to a different time and way of living.

73. Discover the secrets of Easter Islands statues

The statues of Easter Island, known as Moai statues are one of the great mysteries of our time. Debate rages around their age, purpose and and design. What is generally agreed on is that they were built somewhere between 400 AD and 1500 AD. Their unique design with large heads, face away from the sea, perhaps to look over the villages and protect them. Regardless of their purpose, they’re a stunning and spectacular sight to see. There’s currently 887 Moai statues on the island, although ongoing excavations hope to recover more.

74. Descend into a Pharoah’s tomb in the Valley of the Kings

The Valley of the Kings close to Luxor in Egypt is the last resting place of many of ancient Egypt’s most famous Pharaoh’s. Tutankhamun, Ramses II and many others were buried here in grandiose ornamental tombs. While many of the tombs were sacked by treasure hunters, there still remains incredible wall art, sarcophaguses, carvings and hieroglyphics. Many of the tombs date back more than 3,000 years and you can feel the history as you enter.

The wonderful national park of Torres del Paine in Chile is one of the finest in the whole continent of South America. It’s home to spectacular turquoise lakes, numerous glaciers and some spectacular mountains. You need to time your visit right to get the most of out of this park, but visit during the peak summer months and you’ll struggle to find a better alpine hiking location anywhere in the world.

76. Experience the hyper reality of Las Vegas Boulevard

Las Vegas is like nowhere else on the planet and one of the most amazing places in the world to visit. While it’s not everyone’s favourite destination, it is one place that everyone should visit at least once in their life. The ‘strip’ as it’s known, is home to various famous monuments from around the world, including Venice, the Eiffel Tower and the Pyramids. Alongside these monuments are decadent casino’s, hotels, shows, bars and nightclubs – it’s a full on assault on your senses. It’s really is true that you have to see Vegas to believe it.

77. Experience the best of the Silk Road in Bukhara

The Silk Road city of Bukhara in Uzbekistan is one of the finest along this fabled route. Dating back over 2,000 years the city grew as trade increased along the Silk Road. The legacy left behind by this trade route is a significant one with wonderfully preserved buildings, including mosques, mausoleums and fortresses. The iconic Mir-i-Arab Madrasa is the finest of all the buildings and one of the most sacred Islamic schools. This destination is a real bucket list item for history buffs and intrepid travellers.

78. Discover your own desert island in the San Blas Islands

The San Blas Islands in Panama are home to some of the finest beaches anywhere in the world. Located in the Caribbean Sea, the waters are calm, clear and warm making it the perfect place to sail through. Of the 365 islands in the San Blas archipelago, only 49 of them are inhabited, giving you plenty of scope to fulfil your Robinson Crusoe fantasies.

79. Spend the summer solstice at Stonehenge

Much like the Moai statues on Easter Island, very few definitive answers exist to explain the creation and purpose of Stonehenge. The site is believed to have been constructed around 5,000 years ago, however the creators left no written record. What is indisputable though is that the site has been configured to align perfectly with the position of the sun during both the summer and winter solstice. Visiting during the summer solstice is a great opportunity to see this magical sight at its best, at both sunrise and at sunset. The normally rigid opening hours of 9 to 5 are relaxed for this special occasion and there’s a jubilant atmosphere with plenty of open minded people in attendance.

80. Party at Oktoberfest in Munich

What isn’t to like about Oktoberfest? Beer (and lots of it), sausages, music and funfair rides fill a huge 42 acre site in the Bavarian capital of Munich each October. Attracting 6 million visitors each year, it’s a massive festival with global appeal. While consuming the various Bavarian beers on offer is the main pastime, it’s also an import folk festival for the people of Bavaria and dates all the way back to 1810. In terms of bucket lists, you probably need to be a beer drinker to really enjoy this one.

81.See the Parthenon in Athens

When you think of the great buildings of the ancient world, the Parthenon of Athens in Greece is one that is always close to the top of the list. Dating back to the 4th century BC, the building is approaching 2,500 years in age. Thanks to a huge investment in conserving the site, it remains in good condition and is being slowly rebuilt using the original materials. A visit to the Parthenon is a common bucket list item and one that you’ll enjoy immensely after making the ascent up the sometime steep track. As you reach the top the epic structure comes into view, which surprises many with its intricate details.

82. Hike the Annapurna Circuit

The Annapurna Circuit in Nepal is another long time favourite on the bucket list. Widely recognised as the best beginner/intermediate hike in Nepal, it takes you from the foothills of the Himalayas up to the Thorong La Pass at 5,416 meters. The route takes between 10 to 14 days to complete and the circuit is 100 to 145 miles in distance, depending on the route taken. It’s a truly wonderful and spectacular hike that not only gets you in touch with nature, but builds your fitness and mental health. If you’re in need of a recharge, this should be at the very top of your bucket list.

83. Immerse yourself in Cartagena’s old town

The old town of Cartagena in Colombia is another UNESCO listed world heritage site on our list and a highlight of any visit to South America. The old town in Cartagena dates back to 1533 and is famous for it’s unique Spanish colonial architecture. A wander around this area is a hugely rewarding experience with numerous shops, restaurants and street vendors. The vibrant colours and quaintness of the old town contrast brilliantly with the brash, drab skyline of the modern city, which lies in the distance. The old town offers great nightlife, plus amazing beaches as well, making Cartagena a destination you have to visit.

84. Dive the Great Barrier Reef

The Great Barrier Reef off of Australia’s east coast is one of the 7 natural wonders of the world. Stretching out over a distance of 2,700 kilometres it encompasses over 2,900 individual reefs as well as over 900 islands. This amazing ecosystem is home to some of the finest diving sites in the world which makes it a bucket list contender for snorkellers and divers alike. The shipwreck of the SS Yongala is considered to be one of the best wreck dives in the world, while the Cod Hole dive site near Cairns allows you to dive with giant Potato Cod. Whichever of the numerous dive sites you visit, you’re guaranteed to see plenty of marine life and spectacular coral.

85. Hike or cruise around Milford Sound

Milford Sound in New Zealand’s South Island is the countries top attraction. This stunningly beautiful fjord is surrounded by towering mountain peaks along with rainforests, waterfalls and plenty of wildlife. It’s part of a wider conservation area known as Te Wahipounamu, which is UNESCO world heritage listed. There’s no best way to see this amazing area but you need to experience it on both land and water to truly appreciate the beauty. We’d personally go with kayaking on the fjord and one or more hike. In the end it’s not important how you see this amazing destination, just that you do. This is another sensational bucket list destination.

86. Marvel at the Iguazu Waterfalls

The spectacular Iguazu Waterfalls sit along the border between Brazil and Argentina in South America. Recognised as the widest waterfalls in the world, the cumulative width of it’s 275 waterfalls is a stunning 2.7 kilometres. Even if you’ve been to Victoria Falls, Niagra Falls or even Angel Falls, this is a sight that you simply must see.

87. See Mount Kelimutu’s multi-coloured volcanic lakes

Mount Kelimutu on the Indonesian island of Flores is an incredible but somewhat under the radar destination. This spectacular volcano has 3 volcanic crater lakes on its summit, which all vary in colour and change from time to time. Believed to be caused by fumaroles or volcanic vents, the lakes are influenced by the release of gases from below the surface. When you see these amazing lakes in person, you’re immediately struck by the intensity of the colours, the likes of which you’ll rarely if ever see elsewhere.

88. Take in Krakow’s historic architecture

The city of Krakow in Poland is one of the outstanding European cities to visit. Famous for it’s immaculately preserved medieval town centre, a visit here is like walking through an open air museum. At the centre of town is the Rynek Glówny or market square, arguably the finest example in any European city. Elsewhere in Krakow you’ll find a host of intriguing museums, a fine Jewish quarter and a Gothic cathedral dating back to the 14th century. It makes Krakow the best city to visit in Poland.

89. Have your breath taken away by the Sagrada Família

The Sagrada Família is quite possibly the greatest unfinished building in the world. Designed and initially built by the legendary Catalan architect, Gaudi, it remains unfinished to this day. This is not something that immediately strikes you as it’s ornate exterior and stunning interior overwhelm your senses. Recognised by UNESCO as a world heritage site, this stunning building must be seen to be believed.

90. See Michelangelo’s finest work in the Sistine Chapel

The fabulous country of Italy is synonymous with so many things, but one that really stands out is the countries amazing renaissance artists. From Da Vinci, to Raphael to Michelangelo the list is a long and distinguished one. However one work of renaissance art stands out head and shoulders above the rest and that’s Michelangelo’s painting in the Sistine Chapel of the Vatican. This amazing piece of art covers the ceiling of the chapel and took 4 years to complete. The exquisite frescoes on the ceiling are captivating for art lovers and casual observers alike. If you haven’t already been persuaded to visit Rome by its other attractions, this incredible piece of art should surely sway your decision.

91. Visit the Potala Palace in Lhasa

Tibet’s capital city of Lhasa is an amazing place to visit. Once one of the most remote places in the world, it’s now linked to the rest of China by a high speed rail line. Despite this significant shift in the cities connectivity, the city remains largely unchanged. This is especially true of the Potala Palace, which has overlooked the city from it’s hilltop location since 1649. While it’s no longer the residence of the Dalai Lama, it’s wonderful design and architecture has been impeccably preserved. Visiting the Potala Palace and Lhasa is a real bucket list item for many intrepid travellers and one that’s becoming increasingly accessible.

92. Visit the Hagia Sophia and Blue Mosque

Listed as a twin bucket list item, these 2 stunning UNESCO listed mosques are separated by a matter of a few hundred meters. Located in the Sultanahmet neighbourhood of Istanbul in Turkey, you can see both as part of a weekend trip to Istanbul. The Hagia Sophia is the older of the 2 buildings and is almost 1500 years old. Formerly a church and mosque, it’s now a museum. The Blue Mosque is much younger having been built in the early 17th century, however its no less impressive. A visit to these twin sights along with the other treasures of Istanbul will leave you awe struck.

93. Be awe struck by the geysers of Yellowstone

Yellowstone National Park is another popular bucket list destination. This hydrothermal park is home to many unique and spectacular features. Possibly the greatest of all are it’s 500 geysers, including the exceptional ‘Old Faithful’. Renowned for it’s consistency and predictability, this enormous geyser erupts 20 times each day. Such is the force of the eruption that water is thrown up to 180 feet in the air. Experiencing an eruption gives you a new respect for the force and power of mother nature.

94. Hike through the Antelope Canyon

The incredible Antelope Canyon in Nevada, USA is the most spectacular slot canyon you’re ever going to see. Shaped by millions of years of erosion caused by the wind and rain, the result is a spectacular series of curving canyons. The pastel coloured curved rock lends itself to spectacular photographs, particularly in the midday sun when beams of light shine in. This really is the place to take your Instagram account to the next level.

95. Watch the sunset in Santorini

Santorini is probably the best known of Greece’s many spectacular islands. It’s famous for the beautiful white washed town of Thira, which sits atop the vast caldera that was was formed following an eruption in 1613 BC. The town is home to many hillside boutique hotels and restaurants, which have the most sensational views out over the ocean. To finish off our list we’ve gone with an old favourite, the iconic and beautiful Eiffel Tower. Built in 1887, this wonderful building has captivated visitors for years. At 330 meters in height, it was the tallest building in the world when it was constructed. If you can draw yourself away from marvelling at the tower, you can ascend to either the first, second or third floor. The highest of these stands at a vertigo inducing 276 meters and provides stunning views across Paris. It’s possible to climb all the way to the top via the stairs but most people choose to ride the express lift.
