Requirements for Mexicans
At present, Mexico is one of the countries which are exempt from applying for a visa to visit Italy. From November 2023, however, the European Union intends to bring in a requirement for all Mexicans traveling to Italy to apply for ETIAS to visit Italy and the other Schengen Area countries. ETIAS stands for the European Travel Information and Authorization System, a security screening system that will grant visitors authorization to visit the Schengen Area before they arrive. The ETIAS Italy for Mexicans acts as a visa waiver for the Schengen states.
ETIAS Requirements for Mexican Citizens
To fulfill the ETIAS Italy requirements for Mexicans, applicants must be in possession of the following items:
- A valid Mexican passport
- A working credit or debit card
- A functioning email address
Once these items are available, travelers may apply for ETIAS to visit Italy by completing an online application form on their computer, phone or other internet-connected device. This form simply requires Mexicans traveling to Italy to provide their personal details, passport information, and the answers to several questions regarding their health, criminal record and previous travel history.
Travelers can apply for ETIAS to visit Italy in just a few minutes. Processing of the application will take no more than 72 hours, but most applications are approved and delivered within minutes.
Application Form
Travelers should note that ETIAS Italy requirements for Mexicans state that minors must apply for their own ETIAS Italy for Mexicans using their own valid passport. Parents or guardians may complete an ETIAS application on behalf of their child or dependent, but they must provide their own personal information along with the application.
Personal Information for the ETIAS Italy
To apply for ETIAS to visit Italy, Mexicans need to include a number of personal details on their application in order to have it accepted. The list of these details is as follows:
- Full name as written on passport
- Date and place of birth
- Gender
- Current address
- Contact details (esp. email address)
- Passport information – number, date of issue and expiry date
- Nationality as shown on passport
As part of the ETIAS Italy requirements for Mexicans, visitors must state which Schengen Area member state their first port of entry will be located in, as ETIAS permits Mexicans to visit any state in the Schengen Area for up to 90 days within a single 180-day period.
The information provided when applying for the ETIAS Italy for Mexicans is shared by the ETIAS system with several EU security databases, such as EURODAC, VIS, and Interpol. If an ETIAS application triggers an alarm within the system, it is sent for individual review by ETIAS staff. If a Mexican traveling to Italy has their ETIAS application rejected, they may appeal the rejection and submit additional documentation for their application to the ETIAS team.
What Documents Do I Need for the ETIAS Italy?
Any Mexican wishing to apply for ETIAS to visit Italy must be in possession of a valid Mexican passport. This passport needs to be valid both when submitting the ETIAS application and when entering Italy or another Schengen country. In addition, it must still be valid for at least three months after the date upon which the traveler intends to leave Italy.
If the passport used to apply for the ETIAS Italy for Mexicans expires, the ETIAS attached to it becomes invalid, and a new ETIAS application must be submitted using a new passport. Once approved, an ETIAS remains valid for three consecutive years.
ETIAS France Requirements for Mexicans
Mexican citizens can currently visit France and the other Schengen Area countries visa-free for up to 90 days for business, transit, or tourism purposes. However, from November 2023, Mexican citizens will be required to apply for the online ETIAS visa waiver for travel to France for the same period, permitting they meet the ETIAS travel authorization for France requirements for Mexicans.
The ETIAS France is being implemented in order to expedite the application process as well as to improve security within European borders. Mexican passport holders staying up to 90 days in any Schengen member state will be required to pre-register travel to France through the ETIAS online application form as of November 2023. Travelers will have to comply with some ETIAS requirements for Mexicans in order to apply.
France entry requirements from Mexico
The ETIAS France requirements for Mexican citizens involve completing the online ETIAS application with personal information such as full name, address, contact number, Schengen country of first entry and all the data from the passport information page such as issue number and expiry date. It‘s important to double-check all the data provided, in order to avoid delays or denial of the ETIAS application for France
Applicants will also be required to answer some health and security questions, with all the data provided then pre-screened for security threats against the various eu-LISA information management databases.
Applicants will be required to enter:
- Name.
- Contact details.
- Passport information issue number.
- Passport date of expiry.
- Place of birth.
Documents for travel to France from Mexico
The ETIAS France requirements for documents for Mexicans involve having a current Mexican passport valid for at least 3 months beyond the date of departure from France and the Schengen Area. Mexican citizens may also be asked to provide the following documents at border control:
- · Proof of reservation in a hotel or other accommodation.
- · A return plane ticket for Mexico or the traveler’s country of residence.
- · Proof of sufficient financial means to last the stay in France, at least 65 euros per day. Evidence would include a credit card or travellers cheques.
- · Insurance covering medical emergencies and evacuation.
Medical info for Mexicans travelling to France
The cost of healthcare is relatively high in France and, with the exception of emergency services, Mexicans may be required to pay for medical services before receiving treatment. An inability to pay could result in the refusal of medical care in France, so obtaining insurance coverage for hospital stays and medical evacuation is essential.
French emergency services can be reached by dialing 15 or 122 to connect to an operator.
ETIAS France application from Mexicans
In order to complete and send the ETIAS for France application form, eligible Mexican citizens will also need to have a valid debit or credit card in order to pay the authorization fee for France. Upon approval, the France ETIAS system will be sent to the applicant’s inbox. It’s also necessary to provide a current email address and carefully check it is correct before submitting the application.
Most France ETIAS for Mexicans applications will be approved within minutes, although in some cases additional information or documentation may be required for the travel authorization to be approved. Upon receiving the France travel authorization for Mexicans in the inbox, applicants can then print a copy of the France ETIAS to present at French border control alongside their passport.
ETIAS for travel from Mexico to France
The ETIAS France for Mexican citizens does not allow for study or work in France. Mexican citizens will need to check France authorization requirements for these other purposes and/or longer stays.
Once approved and issued, the France ETIAS for Mexicans will allow for multiple-entry stays of 90 days each within the Schengen Area, with a total validity of 3 years, or until the corresponding passport expires. The ETIAS France allows for either tourism, transit, or business purposes such as meetings, conferences or trade fairs.
How long can I stay in Europe with ETIAS?
With ETIAS you will be able to stay up to 90 days per 180-day period. During your stay, you will be able to visit France and all the countries within the Schengen Area with the same ETIAS visa waiver.
Do I need a visa to travel to Colombia?
Famed for its warm and welcoming atmosphere and its plethora of jaw-dropping national parks, sun-soaked beaches and dynamic cities, Colombia is fast becoming one of South America’s most popular travel destinations, drawing footloose backpackers and family vacationers in droves.
Adding to the appeal, visa requirements for Colombia are fairly straightforward, with visa-free travel available for a large number of countries, plus a simple online visa application process for other nationalities.
As anywhere, requirements can change without warning, so it’s always important to double-check the latest guidance from your local Colombian embassy, but here are the most important things you need to know about visas for Colombia.
Who needs a visa to go to Colombia?
Travelers from 102 countries and territories, including the USA, Canada, the UK, New Zealand and Australia and most countries in the EU and EEA, can enter Colombia visa-free as tourists. Upon arrival, visitors from countries on the approved list receive a passport stamp granting a stay of up to 90 days.
There are a few conditions. You’ll need a minimum of six months left on your passport before it expires and you may be asked to show proof of an onward ticket for travel out of Colombia at the end of your stay. Officials may also request evidence of a yellow fever vaccination certificate if you’re entering from another South American country.
As part of current Covid-19 travel requirements, you must also complete the Check-Mig immigration form on the Migración Colombia website. It’s available in English, Spanish and French, and the form must be filled out between 24 hours and one hour before departure for Colombia.
When leaving Colombia, there’s a chance you may be charged an exit tax of COP130,000 (US$35) at the airport. This tax is normally included in the cost of flight tickets, but you should confirm this when checking in for your inbound flight.

Which countries need a visa for Colombia?
Citizens of most nations in Africa, Asia and the Middle East (plus some other countries) are not eligible for visa-free access and must apply in advance for a visitor visa to enter the country. There’s a full list of countries and territories whose citizens require a visa on Colombia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.
Applications for tourist visas should be filed online and the cost varies depending upon your nationality and the country where you are located when applying. Expect to pay around COP310,000 (US$82) for the visa, which is usually valid for a stay of up to 180 days. Make sure you have all of your documents ready before you begin the application process online – the website times out after 30 minutes, deleting any progress you’ve made up until that point.
Citizens of Cambodia, China, India, Macau, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam can enter Colombia visa-free for up to 90 days if they have an existing short-stay visa or residency permit issued by the USA or any Schengen Area country. This document must be valid for at least 180 days beyond the date of your arrival in Colombia.

Can I extend my Colombian tourist visa?
If you’re a citizen of a country that has visa-free access to Colombia, you can extend your stay by an additional 90 days by applying for an extension online (in Spanish) or at the offices of Migracíon Colombia (including in Bogotá, Medellín, Cali and Cartagena). If you have a 180-day visa, this cannot be extended, as this is already the maximum stay allowed.
The COVID-19 pandemic has caused delays to the processing of visa applications, so the process of extending your entry stamp must be completed at least two weeks before your existing stamp expires. You will need to provide photocopies of the information page of your passport and your Colombian entry stamp and proof of a booking for onward travel within the next 90 days to support your application.
Extending your tourist stamp allows you to spend a maximum of 180 days in total in Colombia in any 12-month period. Extending costs COP103,000 (US$27) for most nationalities, but it’s free for citizens from a Schengen Area country.

Visa requirements for working in Colombia
A temporary worker’s visa, known as a migrant (M) visa or M-5 is available for travelers who can prove they have a job lined up with a Colombian employer. This class of visa has a duration of up to three years, and your Colombian employer will need to provide several financial documents to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support the process, including bank statements and proof of tax payments.
You can apply for this class of visa from abroad or while you are in the country on a tourist visit, making it easier to attend interviews with a local employer. While you can leave and enter the country on a working visa, it will expire if you leave Colombia for longer than six consecutive months.
It’s not a cheap process, however. Expect to pay COP196,000 (US$52) for the application process, and a further COP670,000 (US$230) once it has been approved. You can apply online, although you may be required to show documents in person at your local consulate or embassy – there’s a full list on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs website.
If your application is successful, you’ll receive an electronic visa via email, which can be shown to border officials upon arrival and exit from Colombia. There is no legal requirement to have the visa printed in your passport unless you’re staying in Colombia for more than three months; however, it’s highly recommended that you get a copy printed at your local consulate as there’s always the possibility that passport officials may demand to see a physical copy.
