Best Trail-to-Tavern Adventures in Wyoming
Wyoming is an undisputed outdoor playground, with opportunities for hiking, mountain biking and climbing extending to every corner of the state. And arguably the best way to cap off a day spent enjoying this vast array of adventures is with a hard-earned pint of locally brewed beer.
Here we list, eight recommended trail systems and regions to explore across Wyoming, from iconic hikes to rugged mountain bike trails to climbing hotspots, each paired up with a don’t-miss nearby brewery where you can toast to your adventure while enjoying an adult beverage.
1. Black Mountain Lookout, Bighorn National Forest
Distance: 3.5 miles
Brewery: Black Tooth Brewing Company, Sheridan
The Black Mountain Lookout is a beautiful day hike in the million-acre Bighorn National Forest. The hike begins in a lodgepole forest and ascends just over 1,000 feet to an opening featuring an old fire lookout and stunning views of Cloud Peak, Black Tooth and Steamboat Rock. After your hike, hit up Black Tooth Brewing in Sheridan, a real treat in this quaint town. Craft brews and occasional live music make the microbrewery the ideal place to wrap up a long day on the trail.
2. Inspiration Point, Grand Teton National Park
Distance: 2.2 miles
Brewery: Snake River Brewing, Jackson
You’d be hard-pressed to visit Jackson and the Tetons without experiencing the panoramic views, tumbling falls and crystal waters of this trail—quite a reward for just a few miles of hiking. The trail begins at the Jenny Lake Trailhead, and there’s always the option of taking a boat across the lake. Once you’re back in town, head to Snake River Brewing for an array of on-tap selections. Grab a bowl of Wyoming Bison Chili while you’re there—it’s a fitting way to fuel up after one of the state’s most iconic hikes.
3. Slickrock Mountain Bike Trail, Cody
Distance: 7.5 miles
Brewery: Pat O’Hara Brewing Company, Cody
A 1.5-mile climb leads to a fun roller coaster section and some incredible cross-country slickrock sandstone riding on this short-but-sweet trail. Keep track of your line—the trails aren’t painted, and newer riders will want to steer clear of big drops. After a few laps, swing into Cody for a beer at the Pat O’Hara Brewing Company. Classic Irish pub fare—think shepherd’s pie and fish and chips—along with 15 beers on tap offer a tasty, hearty finish to an active day.
4. Curt Gowdy State Park, Cheyenne
Put your off-road riding skills to the test at the Curt Gowdy State Park in Cheyenne.
Distance: 25 miles
Brewery: Freedom’s Edge Brewing Company, Cheyenne
You don’t have to knock out all 25 miles of the mountain biking trail system at this state park; there are plenty of options for shorter out-and-back rides. Regardless of skill level, the loop through three different ecosystems is rated as an IMBA Epic—which means it’s not to be missed for mountain bikers. Terrain includes various landscapes, steep climbs and sweeping downhills. After busting your quads and lungs, hit up the family-owned Freedom’s Edge Brewing Company in Cheyenne for a refreshing beer in a dog- and kid-friendly environment. Try the Brown and Gold brown ale, whose name is a nod to the University of Wyoming.
5. Beaver Creek; Sinks Canyon State Park, Lander
Distance: Assorted loops for Nordic Skiing at Beaver Creek Nordic Ski Area; 1-4 mile hiking trails at Sinks Canyon
Brewery: Lander Bar, Lander
Winter season will find skiers flocking to Beaver Creek Nordic Ski Area, with trails winding through lodgepole pines and across open meadows. The system is groomed for both skate and classic. When the trails dry out, head to Sinks Canyon State Park for trails ranging from one mile to four miles, appropriate for all ages and abilities. After a day enjoying the outdoors, grab a pint at the Lander Bar, which was first opened as a saloon in 1908 and also has served as a hotel, brothel and boarding house. These days, the Wild West vibe still pervades, and the watering hole is a popular spot for kicking back with a pint or two of local beer on tap.
6. Wilkins Peak Trail System, Rock Springs/Green River
Distance: Options range from 1-mile loops to 15-mile rides and longer
Brewery: Square State Brewing
The Wilkins Peak Trail System has been voted one of the best areas for mountain biking in Wyoming. With multiple loops on terrain ranging from beginner to advanced, Wilkins Peak features a flowing trail network that’s extensive enough to warrant multiple days and visits. When you’ve had your adrenaline fix, head to Square State Brewing in Rock Springs, whose welcoming atmosphere is a popular gathering spot for anglers, mountain bikers and an assortment of other outdoorsy folk.
7. Ten Sleep Canyon, Ten Sleep
The red cliffs of Ten Sleep Canyon attract rock climbers of all abilities.

A climbing trip in Wyoming isn’t complete without exploring the limestone cliffs of Ten Sleep Canyon. With climbs ranging from juggy 5.8s to slabby 5.12s and everything in between, there’s something for everyone. Most sport climbs are tightly bolted and accessible, and climbing enthusiasts can easily make it an overnight adventure thanks to plenty of camping sites. After you’ve maxed yourself out on the rock, take a drive out of the canyon to Ten Sleep Brewing Company. Grab pint and a board game, pet the brewery cat and relax as the pump slowly recedes from your forearms.
8. Casper Mountain Trails Center, Casper
Distance: 26 miles of groomed trails, many distance options for Nordic skiing, snowshoeing and fat biking
Brewery: Frontier Brewing Company, Casper
The trails are just the start in this top-notch winter sports hub. Groomed for skate and classic skiing—and with many trails optimized for fat biking—the Casper Mountain Trails Center has trails for all ages and abilities. Sections of groomed trail are also lighted at night, and skiing under the stars is a magical adventure. Whenever you hit the trails, opt to warm up at the Frontier Brewing Company in the heart of downtown Casper. This microbrewery uses a pour-for-yourself, pay-by-the-ounce system, and its laid-back vibe includes live music every Thursday and food trucks on site.

Youth Counselors
Teton Youth & Family Services (TYFS) is the umbrella organization for three entities that are crucial to child welfare in Teton County and throughout Wyoming: the Van Vleck House (which includes a Group Home and Crisis Center and Court Diversion Service), Red Top Meadows (which provides residential treatment and wilderness programs for adolescent males), and the Hirschfield Center for Children (which provides programs for families and children as well as forensic interviews for children subject to neglect and/or abuse). Youth Counselors are based out of Jackson, WY, with Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks in your backyard!

Youth Counselors work in an active and challenging environment while helping youth find their way to more fulfilling and constructive lives! Responsibilities include the daily care and supervision of residents, building therapeutic relationships with clients, and creating a safe and predictable environment. Overnight Youth Counselors ensure the security of residents during the nighttime hours. This requires making frequent bed checks, remaining alert at all times, completing assigned minor maintenance or housekeeping task along with meal prep, and helping students start their day positively by maintaining a pleasant, caring attitude, and a calm, respectful environment. This is a full-time, year-round position. Compensation starts at $19.57/hour with an incredible bonus program: for the first 18 months receive a $2,000 bonus every 6 months! Meals and snacks are provided on shift and staff housing is available for $900/month plus utilities. Adventure Camp Staff & Interns
SOAR has three course locations: Balsam Base, NC (most programming occurs in nearby Pisgah and Nantahala National Forests), Eagle View Ranch, WY (while on base, you will stay in outfitter-style shelters and tipis that are electricity free), and the Florida Keys (The campsite is located in the Spanish Harbor Channel and all SCUBA programs are facilitated here). Staff members are initially slated for one of these primary course areas, but you could potentially be asked to work on any course in any area.
Have fun. Be a leader. Change a life. Find adventure. Make a difference. SOAR is an adventure summer camp camp for youth and young adults diagnosed with ADHD and other learning differences. Adventure Camp Staff & Interns will lead campers as they are challenged in a variety of adventure activities (backpacking, rock climbing, canoeing, and more), and pushed beyond their comfort zone with support and encouragement. These experiences empower campers to be strength-focused, learn more about themselves, overcome challenges, and relate lessons learned to other aspects of their lives. Adventure Camp Staff & Interns supervise a group of 6 to 8 students (2 staff per group), for 24 hours a day, on 10 to 18-day courses, demonstrate sound and safe decision making, facilitate adventure-based expeditions, the development of life skills, organizational skills, self-esteem, problem-solving strategies, communication techniques, and social skills, and act as a role model for campers by demonstrating maturity, responsibility, good organizational skills, professional behavior and fun! Working at SOAR will allow you to grow and learn with campers in ways that you never thought possible. 2023 positions are available from mid-May to mid-August, with varying start/end dates based on location. Benefits include compensation starting at $3,500 (additional pay DOE), plus room and board, and free WFA, CPR and Lifeguard certifications.
