## COVID-19 Testing Requirements for Travel to South Africa
As of September 18, 2022, all travelers arriving in South Africa are required to present a negative COVID-19 test result taken within 72 hours of departure. The test can be either a PCR or antigen test.
### Acceptable Test Types
PCR Test: This is the most accurate type of COVID-19 test and is highly recommended for travel to South Africa. It involves taking a swab from the back of the throat and nose. Results are typically available within 24-48 hours.
Antigen Test: This test is less accurate than a PCR test, but it is faster and less invasive. It involves taking a swab from the nose. Results are typically available within 15-30 minutes.
### Test Results
The test result must be in English or accompanied by a certified translation. The result must include the following information:
The type of test performed
The date and time the test was taken
The name and contact information of the laboratory that performed the test
The traveler’s name and passport number
### Exemptions
The following travelers are exempt from the testing requirement:
Children under the age of 5
Travelers who have recovered from COVID-19 within the past 90 days and have proof of a positive PCR or antigen test result
Travelers who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and have proof of vaccination
