Where Does the World’s Longest Hiking Trail Cross This Bridge?

The world’s longest hiking trail, the Transcontinental Trail (TCT), crosses the George Washington Bridge in Fort Lee, New Jersey, USA. The 11,000-mile TCT stretches from the Atlantic Ocean to the Pacific Ocean, traversing 11 states and connecting five national scenic trails.

The George Washington Bridge

The George Washington Bridge is a suspension bridge that spans the Hudson River between Fort Lee, New Jersey and Upper Manhattan in New York City. It is one of the busiest bridges in the world, with over 100 million vehicles crossing it each year. The bridge is named after the first president of the United States, George Washington.

The TCT Crossing

The TCT crosses the George Washington Bridge on the pedestrian walkway. The walkway is located on the lower level of the bridge and offers stunning views of the Hudson River and the Manhattan skyline.

To cross the bridge, hikers can take the elevator or stairs to the walkway. The walkway is open 24 hours a day, but hikers should be aware of the high traffic volume during peak hours.

The TCT

The TCT is a challenging but rewarding trail that offers hikers a unique opportunity to experience the diversity of the American landscape. The trail passes through forests, deserts, mountains, and grasslands, and it offers hikers a chance to see some of the most iconic landmarks in the United States.

The TCT is divided into 11 segments, each of which corresponds to one of the five national scenic trails that it connects. The segments are:

Atlantic Coast Trail
Appalachian Trail
North Country Trail
Pacific Northwest Trail
Continental Divide Trail

Hikers can choose to hike the entire TCT or just a portion of it. The trail is well-marked and there are plenty of resources available to help hikers plan their trips.

Planning a TCT Crossing

If you are planning to hike the TCT, it is important to plan your crossing of the George Washington Bridge in advance. You should allow plenty of time to cross the bridge, especially if you are hiking during peak hours. You should also be aware of the bridge’s rules and regulations.
