I’ve always loved hiking, and one of my favorite places to go is Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. The scenery is beautiful, with towering mountains, sparkling lakes, and lush forests. There are also plenty of hiking trails to choose from, ranging from easy walks to challenging climbs.

I recently hiked to the summit of Mount Chocorua, which is one of the most popular hiking destinations in the area. The hike was challenging, but it was worth it for the stunning views from the top. I could see for miles in every direction, and I even spotted Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast.

Getting There

Lake Winnipesaukee is located in central New Hampshire, about an hour’s drive from Manchester and two hours from Boston. I usually take I-93 north to Exit 20, then follow Route 11 north to the lake.

Once you’re at the lake, there are plenty of places to park and start your hike. I usually park at the Weirs Beach State Park, which has a large parking lot and easy access to several hiking trails.

If you’re coming from out of town, you can also fly into Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (MHT) and rent a car. From the airport, it’s about a 45-minute drive to Lake Winnipesaukee.

Here are some specific directions to the Weirs Beach State Park⁚

  • From I-93 north, take Exit 20 onto Route 11 north.
  • Follow Route 11 north for about 10 miles.
  • Turn left onto Endicott Street North.
  • The park entrance will be on your left.

Once you’re in the park, you can follow the signs to the hiking trails. There are trails for all levels of hikers, from easy walks to challenging climbs.

The Hike

I started my hike at the Weirs Beach State Park, and I followed the signs to the Mount Chocorua trailhead. The trail started out easy, winding through a forest of pine and birch trees. As I climbed higher, the trail became steeper and more challenging.
After about an hour of hiking, I reached the summit of Mount Chocorua. The views from the top were incredible. I could see for miles in every direction, and I even spotted Mount Washington, the highest peak in the Northeast.

I took a break at the summit to enjoy the views and have a snack. Then, I started my hike back down. The descent was easier than the ascent, but it was still challenging.

After about two hours of hiking, I was back at my car. I was tired, but I was also exhilarated. I had just hiked to the summit of one of the most popular mountains in New Hampshire, and the views were incredible.

The Lake

The Wildlife
