hiking terrace pond parking
I arrived at the parking lot for Terrace Pond early on a Saturday morning to find it already quite full. I was glad I had gotten there early‚ as I could see that parking would be limited on a busy day. The lot is located just off of Route 16‚ and there is a small sign marking the entrance. There is a $5 fee to park‚ which can be paid at a self-pay station. Once I had parked‚ I headed to the trailhead‚ which is located at the back of the parking lot.

The trailhead is well-marked‚ and there is a map of the trail at the start. The trail is a loop trail‚ and it is about 2.5 miles long. The first part of the trail is a gradual incline‚ and it takes you through a forest of mixed hardwoods. The trail then levels out‚ and it follows the shore of Terrace Pond for a while. The pond is very pretty‚ and there are several places where you can stop to enjoy the view. The trail then begins to climb again‚ and it takes you to the summit of Terrace Mountain. The summit is about 1‚000 feet above sea level‚ and it offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. I took a break at the summit to enjoy the views and have a snack. After my break‚ I started back down the trail. The descent is a little steeper than the ascent‚ but it is still manageable. I was back at the parking lot in about an hour and a half.
Overall‚ I had a great hike to Terrace Pond. The trail is well-maintained‚ and the scenery is beautiful. The hike is also a good workout‚ as it has some challenging climbs. I would definitely recommend this hike to anyone who is looking for a moderate hike in the Catskill Mountains.

I would also like to add that it is important to be aware of your surroundings and to stay on the trail‚ especially on the hike back. The trail can be slippery in some places‚ and there are some steep drop-offs. It is also important to be aware of other hikers and to yield to those who are coming downhill.
