My Personal Journey Through Sakleshpur
Having just returned from my own adventure in Sakleshpur, I can wholeheartedly attest to its magic. Initially, I was drawn in by the photographs I saw online ‒ endless carpets of green stretching as far as the eye could see. But nothing could have prepared me for the sheer scale and beauty I encountered. I traveled there by train from Bangalore, a journey that, while a little long, was incredibly scenic in itself. The train snaked its way through lush valleys and past small villages, offering glimpses of rural life that were captivating.
My first stop was a homestay nestled amidst a coffee plantation. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee filled the air, a welcome change from the city’s pollution. The family who ran the homestay, the Patels, were incredibly warm and welcoming. They taught me about the entire coffee-making process, from bean to cup. I even tried my hand at picking coffee beans – a surprisingly strenuous activity! One evening, Mr. Patel took me on a jeep ride through the plantation at sunset. The view was breathtaking ‒ the hills bathed in golden light, the air crisp and clean. It was a moment I won’t soon forget. I felt like I was truly witnessing something special.
Trekking Tales and Temple Visits
Of course, I couldn’t visit Sakleshpur without indulging in some trekking. I chose a relatively easy trail that led to a small waterfall. The hike was invigorating, the path winding through dense forests filled with the sounds of birds and insects. I even spotted a Malabar giant squirrel, a creature I had only ever seen in pictures! The waterfall itself was a welcome reward, a refreshing cascade of cool water perfect for a quick dip. I also made sure to visit the Sakleshwara Temple. While I’m not particularly religious, the temple’s intricate architecture and peaceful atmosphere were truly captivating. The sheer scale of the structure, considering its age, was incredibly impressive.
A Word of Advice (and a Delicious Meal)
Before you head to Sakleshpur, I highly recommend packing comfortable walking shoes and insect repellent – the leeches can be quite persistent! Also, be prepared for unpredictable weather. Even during the dry season, rain showers are common. One of my favourite things I did there was eat. Make sure you try the local cuisine – the akki roti and pandi curry are especially delicious! I discovered a small restaurant run by a lady named Lakshmi, and her food was absolutely divine. The spices, the freshness of the ingredients, everything was perfect. I think I ate there every single day! As I reflect on my trip, I can confidently say that Sakleshpur exceeded all my expectations. I began planning my return visit even before I left. With its stunning natural beauty, adventurous activities, and warm hospitality, Sakleshpur is a destination that deserves to be experienced. So, pack your bags, book your tickets, and prepare to be amazed. This land with lush greenery is waiting to welcome you.
