The Rafting Trip
I arrived at the rafting company’s office early to check in and get fitted for my life jacket and helmet. After a brief safety orientation, I boarded the raft with my group and our guide, Mike.
We started out on the lower section of the river, which was relatively mellow. The rapids were Class II and III, and I felt comfortable navigating them. As we paddled down the river, I enjoyed the scenery. The towering granite cliffs, lush forests, and cascading waterfalls were breathtaking.
After about an hour, we reached the upper section of the river. The rapids here were more challenging, Class III and IV. I was a little nervous at first, but Mike was a great guide and he helped me navigate the rapids safely. I had a blast riding the rapids!
We stopped for lunch at a sandy beach. We ate our sandwiches and snacks, and then we went for a swim in the river. The water was cold, but it was refreshing.
After lunch, we continued down the river. The rapids were still challenging, but I was feeling more confident. I was able to navigate the rapids with ease, and I was even able to help out my fellow rafters.
We reached the takeout point around 4pm. I was sad to see the trip end, but I was also glad to be back on dry land. I thanked Mike for a great day on the river, and then I headed back to my car.
I had an amazing time rafting the South Fork of the American River. The scenery was beautiful, the rapids were exciting, and the guide was great. I would definitely recommend this trip to anyone looking for a fun and adventurous day on the river.
