
Free exercise classes in New York – Your weekend workout
Work out for free in NY
I wanted to write this post for a couple of reasons. I have found that trying to lead a healthy life style in New York is expensive. Organic food prices in Manhattan are really high. Also the gyms are incredibly costly and I have found that their sales tactics are almost aggressive. To get an affordable membership fee, the NY gym chains try to tie you down for as long as two years of monthly credit card payments. And to get out of such a contract, your best bet is to give them proof that you are moving so far from the nearest location that you are unable to use their facilities again. Before we get to the free exercise in New York, I want to mention one gym, as I know some of you are looking to join a new one or get out of a contract that is just too expensive.
The Brooklyn gym with best value for money
Although I have tried out many of the New York and New Jersey gyms, I don’t want to list most of them here, as I don’t think they were good value for money. The only gym I agree with is Crunch Gym in Bushwick, as the membership costs you $10-25 per month. And let’s be clear, this is not a paid advertisement, I’m not getting any compensation for mentioning them in by blog. I have also tested other gyms by the same chain and the price variation is huge. These gyms are franchises and they are able to set their own prices. So check their prices on the websites and use the free day pass to test the facilities first.
Free exercise in New York: where to go this Saturday
For many of us, free exercise in New York sounds good, especially if you are in between gym memberships. And although in Manhattan every business is trying to conquer your wallet, there are still some exceptions out there. Here’s a list of free workouts you can attend this Saturday!
Saturdays
Morning Fitness at Fort Tryon Park
Free walking and strengthening in Manhattan: 8:30 am-9:30 am
Start location: Cabrini Boulevard and Fort Washington Avenue
This is a regular fitness event that takes place every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday until the end of December 2017. Walking, stretching and strengthening exercises.
Free running class in Queens : 9:00 am-10:00 am
Start location: Astoria Park Track, Queens. Meet near the tracks, next to the bathrooms.
Free boxing class in Lower East Side, Manhattan: 10:00 am-11:00 am
Location: Goldie Chu Community Room (2nd Floor), 82 Rutgers Slip
In this regular class you will learn beginner to intermediate boxing techniques, such as stances, evasive movement, footwork and offensive techniques. Your cardio will be built up together with the team atmosphere. Free exercise in New York can be fun! To join this class, you need to fill out an annual registration form.
Free social run in Midtown, Manhattan: 9:04 am-10:34 am
Start location: Niketown New York, 6 E 57TH ST, NEW YORK, NY
This run explores the city and your pace will determine the distance of your run. Please leave your valuables at home. To join these events, please register in advance.
