The Happy Hamlet Retreat

The Happy Hamlet: a review of a retreat in Southern France

If I asked you, how would you like to feel after a holiday, many of us would choose feeling relaxed.

So relaxed, that any of those things that stressed you out before your holiday, will not get to you anymore. After a great holiday, you feel so calm and strong and so inspired, that you feel like not only you can achieve your goals, but you may actually not care about these goals any more, as you have found the power of relaxation. Have you heard of a truly unique place called The Happy Hamlet before?

Where can I truly wind down?

Next, I might ask you, where you would look for a relaxing holiday like this. Usually I’m the kind to opt for city breaks. They are easy to book, the public transport gets you everywhere, you are close to culture, restaurants, bars and shopping opportunities and even the wine tour operators pick you up directly from your hotel. But there is a downside to the buzzing cities.

City breaks may be exciting to look forward to, but the pace of a big city doesn’t exactly have a calming effect. You need to go somewhere quieter, where the pace of life is slow, the warmth of the sun makes your skin feel amazing and you can just forget about the busy life you left behind. I think I have just found a perfect place for you to switch off and recharge your batteries.

It is a place called The Happy Hamlet in Southern France, in the village of Faroux, near Toulouse. This retreat offers their guests pilates and yoga retreats, not forgetting the wine! You can also participate in fitness programs or take art classes. Personally, I’m especially looking forward to the wine tastings..!

I think you will get the best idea of the kind of place The Happy Hamlet is through these fabulous pictures. In an elegant but rustic retreat like this, it’s impossible to feel stressed for long.

Happy Hamlets hoasts art and wine tasting with their partners in the village

The Happy Hamlet can take you to their partner’s wine tasting events in the village

The Happy Hamlet hosts well-being retreats, such as yoga and pilates, fitness, cooking and art classes. The Hamleters can also take you to wine tasting events at their partner’s vineyards in the village. Classes are planned around small groups, ensuring personal instruction and support. If yoga or pilates are not your thing but you are more interested cooking from scratch, using local produce and seasonal vegetables, you can select some of your ingredients from the village gourmet market to complement your dishes. Check out this fabulous “foodie map” of the region! It’s incredible how unnecessary a super market can be to such an autonomous food producing region. The ingredient options you can source locally are endless. One of the themes of The Happy Hamlet, that also really stands out, is the art and wine events, where you get to visit local vineyards and taste the vibrant, local wines in a small group.

The Happy Hamlet Accommodation

Accommodation options are charming and rustic double or twin rooms, located in the Guest House. There is lots of natural sunlight and a private bathroom in each of the rooms. A beautiful barn has been converted into shared facilities, including a lounge, dining room, a kitchen that is equipped to a professional standard and spaces for activities. The views over the valleys from the rustic barn are incredibly beautiful. And when you feel like catching up with a novel or having a little nap, the hammock provides a perfect setting for relaxation.

The natural swimming pool and two saunas

To find your perfect combination for relaxation, enjoy the heat of the barrel sauna with a view. One side of the barrel sauna is see-through glass, which means that you can admire the surrounding nature without even stepping outside. Next, you can cool off by plunging into the natural swimming pool. When it’s time to warm up again, why not try the large and stylish sauna? This second sauna will be opening its doors to the guests very soon.
